Ormond Beach’s $16 Million Pump Station to Protect Flood-Prone Neighborhoods

Stormwater pump station under construction beside a lake in Ormond Beach, Florida

Neighborhoods around Central Park in Ormond Beach know what heavy rain can do. After Hurricane Milton in October 2024, residents reported submerged driveways and lawns. The city’s answer is a new pump station on the Fleming Avenue corridor.

What it will do

ClickOrlando reported in July 2025 that the roughly $16 million project is designed to protect 500 to 600 homes by draining the Central Park lakes into the Halifax River before storms arrive. The station will move water equivalent to three Olympic-size swimming pools every minute. Fox 35 reported that the system will be able to drain retention ponds within 12 hours.

Funding and timeline

According to ClickOrlando, the city had secured about $8 million and asked FEMA for $9 million to finish the work, with completion expected in early 2027. Mayor Jason Leslie said the city felt good about the funding and was already exploring other resources if needed.

What residents said

Trina Street resident Jane Heiser told ClickOrlando, “If it works, it’ll be very nice.” Another homeowner, Kit Christiansen, told Fox 35 that the lakes are connected and the city does pump them, but during the storm it wasn’t enough.
